     As the primary social welfare arm of the city government, the Department of Social Services and Development is  charged with the care, protection and rehabilitation of that segment of the city’s population which has the least in life in terms of physical, mental and social well-being. The DSSD provides  social welfare and development services and social work intervention to restore social functioning and participation in development, especially for the less privileged.
     Programs/Projects undertaken for the year 2002
  • Family Welfare Program - A total of 21,201 beneficiaries for various projects like livelihood development service, family week celebration, parent effectiveness service, value formation, spiritual enhancement, food-for-work capability building, medical assistance, counseling, treatment, rehabilitation, community volunteer and resource development.
  • Child and Youth Welfare Program - Kasadyahan sa Social Development Center, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Street Children and Urban Working Street Children Project, CHild Friendly Movement, Day Care Service Program, Unlad Kabata-an Program.
  • Women Welfare Program - Livelihood Assistance and Practical Skills Development for 307 women. Services to 456 victims of Violence Against Women and 191 victims of physically/sexually abused women.
  • Disabled Welfare Program - A total of 314 benefeciaries like financial/rice assistance, social enhancement for blind, assistance to Badjaos, mobility training nutrition information education and referrals.
  • Elderly Welfare Program - Extended assistance to 2,599 beneficiaries to the elderly.
  • Distressed Welfare Program - Assistance like shelter, medical, burial, transportation, food-for-work, counseling, social cases and food assistance to 1,110 benefeciaries.

Bacolod Boy’s Home
Clientele:        Boys from ages 6 to 18 years old who are orphaned, abandoned, abused, neglected and street children.
Objectives:     To provide a home for these boys and an atmosphere as close as possible to that of a regular home.
To prevent them from becoming potentials juvenile delinquents.
To give them proper educational training, to enhance & prepare them for their eventual return to society.
