The
"peacetival" celebration of the Negros youth during the early
nineties will b revived on December 4 this year as one of the highlights
of the observance of the peace week from November 29 to December 5, 2004,
Councilor Joselle Batapa-Sigue yesterday said. The whole day affair will
feature youth fellowship and dialogue, concert prayer and cultural
programs for peace, she said.
Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, through their
respective Sanggunians had set aside said week in solidarity with the week
of peace in Mindanao, said Batapa-Sigue, author of the peace week
resolution approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod recently.
The peace week will open with "A walk For Peace" on November 29,
consisting of an early morning parade, peace messages and slogan contest,
ecumenical prayer and opening program at the Bacolod Public Plaza.
The week-long event will end with the 'Lights For
Peace" in the late afternoon of December 5, a parade of Christmas
lanterns and lights to symbolically call for peace and start the Christmas
season. The parade will end with a closing program and the unveiling of
the Negros Occidental and Bacolod Symbol of Peace and awarding of best
peace lantern.
Organizations participating during the said week
include Pax Christi Pilipinas, Paghiliusa sa Paghidaet sa Negros (PSPN),
PeaceNet, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Bacolod and Negros
Occidental, the Liga ng Mga Barangay of Bacolod, the Negros Occidental
Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA),
public schools through the Department of Education, RPMP Foundation, Inc.
and the Public Information Office of Bacolod.
Other activities planned are peace exhibits at
Robinson's Place Bacolod, peace climbs, peace essay writing contest and
peace poster making contest for elementary and high school students for
public elementary and high school students, on-the-spot essay writing for
SK members, open and public dialogue between the youth and public
officials, "kapihan sa lagoon", school to school film showing,
peace forum, peace cycle and on the spot-painting contests. For details
