In
a meeting held last week among representatives of the Department of
Education, colleges and universities in the city and Bacolod City
Government, September 18-25, 2004 was declared “Bacolod Clean-up the
World Drive Week”.
Those whoa attended the meeting were: Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Department
of Public Services Head Allan Perez, Chairperson of Task Force Clean and
Green Engineer Elma Advincula and Clean-up Bacolod Drive Committee Head
and Liaison/Coordinator Atty. Ceasar Distrito.
Barangays, City Employees and NGO’s will be
tapped in a synchronized clean-up activity on Saturday, September 25 that
will start 6:00 AM in all major streets of the city. Business
establishments and private residents will also be tapped to participate in
the activity.
This mass clean-up aims to educate and remind our
residents about sanitation, Environment Protection and Healthy Living. The
drive also hopes to make young people aware that cleanliness and
environment protection is not the sole responsibility of government but
also of all citizens.
Schools were also assigned to adopt areas where
sanitation will be their responsibility. The list of private and public
schools participating in the drive will be published tomorrow.
The Mayor appealed to the public for the support
in this endeavor considering that the city is faced with a gigantic
problem on garbage. “Let us help and participate in amking Bacolod the
cleanest and greenest city once again”, the city mayor said. * (CMO-PIO/eljt)
