MassKara Dancers join Shanghai Festival

The Philippine Consulate in Shanghai has chosen the MassKara Festival of Bacolod City, Philippines as entry to the “Festival Around the World” feature of the Shanghai Tourism Festival slated on September 17 to 30, 2004. Organizers of the festivity found the MassKara presentation fitted to the theme, “Walking Into Happiness and Joy” or “Festival Around the World”.
The 2003 MassKara Street Dancing Champion, Barangay Villamonte of Bacolod City will be the Philippine’s representative in the Festival Parade. These Villamonte mardigras dancers won the championship award not only in street dancing but also the Best in Mask, Best in Costume, Best ID Standard and Best in Choreography Awards.
The media mileage to be generated by MassKara’s participation in this event will boost the image of the Philippines abroad and expectedly will benefit the tourism industry, especially, this year’s Silver MassKara Festival on October in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.
Shanghai Tourism Festival is a large-scale metropolitan tourists’ activity held annually in the city jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administrative Commission and the Shanghai Municipal, Cultural, Broadcasting, Film and TC Administrative Bureau.
The entire event will be viewed by more than 14 million domestic and foreign tourists and the Shanghai public during the Golden week period.
Other parade performers will come from the United States, New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and other countries.
The Bacolod MassKara Festival contingent will be led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia, Atty. John Orola Jr., Ma. Asuncion “Girlie” Belzunce, Villamonte Barangay Capt. Andre Victor Las Piñas, Butch Gerasmo of the Bacolod Tourism Office, and Mr. Segundo Jesus “Panoy” Catalan Jr., choreographer of the MassKara dancers. *(CMO-PIO Bacolod City)
