The Philippine Consulate in Shanghai has chosen the MassKara Festival of
Bacolod City, Philippines as entry to the “Festival Around the World”
feature of the Shanghai Tourism Festival slated on September 17 to 30,
2004. Organizers of the festivity found the MassKara presentation fitted
to the theme, “Walking Into Happiness and Joy” or “Festival Around
the World”.
The 2003 MassKara Street Dancing Champion,
Barangay Villamonte of Bacolod City will be the Philippine’s
representative in the Festival Parade. These Villamonte mardigras dancers
won the championship award not only in street dancing but also the Best in
Mask, Best in Costume, Best ID Standard and Best in Choreography Awards.
The media mileage to be generated by MassKara’s
participation in this event will boost the image of the Philippines abroad
and expectedly will benefit the tourism industry, especially, this
year’s Silver MassKara Festival on October in Bacolod City, Negros
Occidental, Philippines.
Shanghai Tourism Festival is a large-scale
metropolitan tourists’ activity held annually in the city jointly
sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administrative Commission and
the Shanghai Municipal, Cultural, Broadcasting, Film and TC Administrative
Bureau.
The entire event will be viewed by more than 14
million domestic and foreign tourists and the Shanghai public during the
Golden week period.
Other parade performers will come from the United
States, New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Malaysia,
Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and other countries.
The Bacolod MassKara Festival contingent will be
led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia, Atty. John Orola
Jr., Ma. Asuncion “Girlie” Belzunce, Villamonte Barangay Capt. Andre
Victor Las Piñas, Butch Gerasmo of the Bacolod Tourism Office, and Mr.
Segundo Jesus “Panoy” Catalan Jr., choreographer of the MassKara
