In response to the appeal of the unpaid daycare workers from all over the
City, Mayor Bing Leonardia conducted a dialog with the group at the Liga
ng mga Barangay Hall on September 8, 2004.
Despite his hectic schedule and pressing
executive functions, Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia was eager to hear the side
of the day care workers and have the opportunity to give clarity to the
present problem confronting them.
Along with the City Legal Officer Atty. Allan
Zamora, Councilor Ana Marie Palermo and Executive Assistants Nestor
Sembrano and Lorenza Uy, the Chief Executive received a warm welcome upon
his arrival at the venue from the 72 daycare workers who were very eager
to hear his side of the matter.
Mayor Leonardia reacted positively to the
workers' request that their salaries for the months of July, August and
September be released. The Mayor added however that there is a need
to follow certain regulations given by the Commission on Audit and the
Civil Service Commission. City Legal Officer Atty. Allan Zamora shed
light on the legal procedures that the city needs to follow to release
their salaries.
The audience was very receptive to the idea of
having the salaries for the month of June settled first inasmuch as Mayor
Evelio Leonardia took office only in July. The dialog resulted
positively for the daycare workers, who promised to rally behind the Mayor
and give their utmost support.
Leonardia also cautioned the group not to be
swayed by some quarters in their respective Barangays who might suggest
actions not helpful toward the resolution of the matter.*(CMO-PIO/osb) |
