Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia urged PMA delegates during their
98th Annual Convention held at the Bacolod Convention Plaza May 18 to 21,
2005, to give priority to their "kababayans" health. This year's
PMA Annual Convention was anchored on the theme: "Nagakakaisang
Manggamot at Mamamayan Para sa Bayan".
In his speech, the Mayor mentioned the exudos of
Filipino doctors to foreign lands preferring to take care of the health of
strangers rather than their own countrymen. "This year's theme brings
to mind the oft mentioned exudos of our medical practitioners who leave
home for the green buck or the dinar, preferring to care for strangers in
distant lands. We wish them all the best, even if we also wish they had
stayed home to care for us their kababayans", he said.
Leonardia also encouraged the delegates to stay
awhile and visit our exotic resorts as well as experience the night-life
of the city. He jestingly urged them to spend not only their time but also
their money while they are here in Bacolod.
Dr. Bu C. Castro, President of the PMA said the
purpose of this convention is to unite and renew the vigor of every
medical practitioner all over the country.
