Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia chairperson of
the Local Council for the Protection of Children encouraged every barangay
officials and the pubic to help out in curbing crimes against in their
area. This call was made by Leonardia during the Orientation on the
Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) for barangay
officials at the Pearl Manor Banquet Center, May 18, 2005.
Leonardia together with Councilor Ana Marie
Palermo as his vice-chairperson in LCPC, were responsible in planning and
spearheading program for the welfare of every children in their locality.
They were assisted by Local Government Units (LGUs), Government
Organizations (GOs) and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) in the city.
In his speech, Leonardia reiterated his appeal
that each barangay should take part in helping and intensifying the
functions of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC),
BCPC as the umbrella organization of LCPC is required to promote child's
rights and implement children's programs in the barangay.
Foremost in the agenda of the BCPC is to ensure,
sustain the development, safety, and welfare of every children in their
formative years and to attain the objective of the city to be one of the
most child friendly city in the country.
The structural organization of the BCPC is
composed of Punong Barangay as Chairman and Barangay Kagawad (chairman
committee on Women and Family), barangay Nutrition Scholar, Barangay Cay
Care Worker, Barangay Health Nurse, DepEd Principal/Teacher, Chief of
Brgy. Tanod, SK Chairman, children representative, PTA Pres. or Rep., NGO,
PO.
First Lady Elsa Leonardia also attended the
