Efficient Garbage Disposal in Different Public Markets

The Department of Public Service (DPS) in cooperation with different Public Vendors Associations has planned a better garbage collection schedule in different public markets in Bacolod City and created a theme, "Pwesto ko, Palangabuhian ko, Tinluan ko."
The scheme for garbage collection will be as follows: 8 to 10 AM. All garbage bins will be removed from the markets and will be unloaded 10 AM to 6 PM all vendors are not allowed to throw their garbage into the bins. At around 8:30 PM, garbage bins will be returned to their designated places. 10 AM - 6 PM all garbage from the vendors will be out in the bins. For the time that the garbage receptacles are not available, roaming trucks will be there to collect the garbage.
Mr. Allan Perez, DPS officer-in-charge, said that different schedules will be implemented in collecting garbage receptacles in different markets especially at the Bacolod North Public Market and Libertad Market because it is the dumping site of varied fruits and vegetables from Kanlaon, Alangilan and other sources.
He also mentioned that for now there are twp shredders undergoing reconditioning that will be placed in two markets so it can help in rapid decomposition of garbage for organic fertilizer purposes.
On the other hand, the city has planned for indigenous use of coconut shells by using as firewood in the slaughter house and that coconut vendors are requested not to throw their garbage in the receptacles for they can be damaged because coconut water is acidic. Special collecting task force will be available to collect the coconut shells.
Special task force will be place along the venue where the bins are placed to supervise the mode of garbage disposal to avoid unpleasant odor in the area.
Also neighboring barangays and other establishments are requested not to throw their garbage in the bins just about anytime located at the different markets for there will be a schedule for collection for them.
Perez challenges the market vendors in different sections to start segregating refuse in their stalls into biodegradable and non-biodegradable for quick disposal of the garbage. (CMO/PIO-mdd)
