Mayor Leonardia Signs Work Contract of 16 Teacher Aides

    
    Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia signed the work contracts of sixteen teacher aides to render services for the next six months at various public elementary and high school in Bacolod City. The formal signing took place at the Bacolod City Mayor's conference room on May 4, 2005, and was witnessed by Bacolod City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Milagros S. Gonzales, City Executive Assistant for Education Rudy Yanson and other DepEd staff.
     The sixteen bright, young new teachers have been rendering voluntary work since January 2005. All were highly recommended by their respective superiors because of good ratings and performance. Dr. Gonzales said more teacher aides are expected to be hired by June 2005 when the new school year begins. The Department will continue to seek ways to fill the need for good and competent teachers.
     Recognizing their unselfish dedication, the mayor spoke to them of the value of commitment, saying that teaching is not ordinary work; one has to look on it not as a career but as a vocation. He also said teachers who sincerely love their work are the ones who persevere, reap good fruit and attain fulfillment.
     The new teacher aides are Mira Villanueva and Suzette Dumaicos of Estefania Elementary School, Mary Belle Vivas and Evelyn Mae Villacruel of L. Hervias National High School, Lalaine Candia of E. Lizares Extension High School, Alvin Cabangbang and Christy Dimson of Isla Elementary School, Shinette Interolizo of BSANHS and eight from the Handumanan Elementary School, namely, Alma Christy Mahilum, Edmarie Juanico, Julius Seballos, Eda Jane Silvano, Julie Rose Flores, Perlyn Aresgado Maripit, Evelyn Poblador and Rhea Rose Torrocarion.
     In a related story, City School Superintendent Dr. Milagros S. Gonzales disclosed that the Bacolod City Local School Board will be giving some P110,000.00 as financial assistance to the Province of Negros Occidental for the expenses of the athletes who will be competing in the Palarong Pambansa in Iloilo from May 8 to 16, 2005. She said the Department of Education, through the Local School Board will be taking over the administration of the St. Dominic Savio Learning Center at the Bacolod Boys Home beginning June 2005. The school will be absorbed into the public school system and will begin to admit girls as students. She added that the Department will be opening new schools in Bacolod City, among which are Isla Elementary School in Brgy. Villamonte, and Cabugwason Elementary School in Brgy. Mansilingan. Teachers for this school will be supplied by the Local School Board. Punong Bayan Elmo C. Olivar of Brgy. Pahanocoy has requested that a high school be put up in his barangay. Through the assistance of Cong. Monico Puentevella who supplied funds for the school building, the high school will open in June with a First Year level, located at the Medalla Elementary School compound, Pahanocoy. (CMO-PIO/efj)
