The Bacolod
Department of Social Services and Development presents its accomplishments
for the first quarter of this year at the "Orientation on the
Strengthening of the BCPC' meeting with City Mayor Evelio Leonardia today
April 29, 2005 at the DSSD Office, 1:00PM.
Among the accomplishments to be highlighted are:
the Recognition Programs of the 119 Daycare Centers that graduated 1,219
pre-schoolers as of March 30, 2005, the Parent's Congress held February 15
at the Bay Center attended by Presidents and Secretaries of the 119 Day
Care Parents Committee Group and the Children Congress held March 18 at
the Pearl Manor Hotel Banquet Center attended by around 300 participants
concerned with the welfare of the children of the poor.
In an interview Linda Ablanque, Head of the local
DSSD said that accomplishments for the 1st quarter of this year are
noticeably more than those accomplished for the same period in the
previous year. Per Ablanque, our local DSSD has, for the first quarter,
served a total of 29,250 cases for the following projects: Orientations on
Parent Effectiveness, Solid Waste Management, ERPAT ( or Empowerment and
Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities Training), Spiritual Enhancement,
Basic Cooperative, Special Protection of Children Against Exploitation RD
7610, Nutrition Information Education, Environment and Sanitation Re:
Cholera, Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, Health Education,
Disabled Welfare Program, Senior's Citizen's Center for the Welfare of the
Elderly.
The DSSD also held conferences for parents and
Daycare workers on areas of cooperation regarding children, parent-child
sessions, supplemental feeding for both children and abandoned elderly
citizens. Daycare workers supervised neighborhood play for children and
socio-cultural and recreational activities for parents and elder
clients.
Referral services were also offered for
deworming, medical check-ups. vitamin supplementation, seed distribution
(in coordination with the Dept. of Agriculture), Pre-natal and family
planning, immunizations, daycare enrollment and baptisms.
Social Workers of the DSSD supervised the
treatment and counseling of victims of domestic violence - the Women's
Crisis Center and the Balay Pasilungan, Development Center for Street
Children, Home for the Blind, and the Rehab Center for Juveniles in
Conflict with the Law.
The Department utilized a total of 1.3 Million (
P 1,302,205.26) in the implementation of the above-mentioned projects and
programs which totals to 29,250 availments by clients.
Per the office of Ms. Ablanque, the different
projects of the DSSD is made possible through the sponsorship of the
following civic-minded organizations: Soroptimist International, AFINO,
Rotary Clubs of Bacolod and Bacolod South, Dra. Diana Nandwani and Group,
Mt. Kanlaon Lions Club, Bacolod Lions, Bulig Foundation, Kiwanis Bacolod,
NFSP, and other kind-hearted citizens and aggrupations in cooperation with
the city government.
The DSSD also collaborated with the other offices
of the city government such as the PAAD (Public Affairs and Assistance
Division), the Dept. of Agriculture, CADAC (Citizen's Anti0Drug Council),
OSCA ( Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs), VRHD (Volunteers for the
Rehabilitations of the Handicapped and the Disabled) in their projects on
seedling distribution, counseling and rehabilitation of drug dependents,
care and education of street children, skills training among others.(PIO-CMO)
