The
Department of Education and San Miguel Corporation signed a memorandum of
agreement adopting Generoso Villanueva National High School and Patricia
Homes Elementary School under the Adopt-A-School program of DepEd. The MOA
signing was done at San Miguel Bacolod Brewery last December 21,2005.
The signatories were SMC Bacolod Plant Manager
Dante E. Patrimonio, Division Schools Superintendent Dr. Milagros S.
Gonzales, Generoso Villanueva NHS Principal Cecilia U. Alcantara and
Patricia Homes Elementary School Principal Leonora E. Sajot.
San Miguel Corporation will give to each
beneficiary school a grant of P50,000.00 for each school year that is
covered by the program duration.
The MOA signed will cover school years 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.
Under Republic Act 8526 DepEd established the
Adopt-A-School program to provide incentive and opportunities for the
private sector to assist the government in the delivery of better quality
education to public schools in the country. DepEd called on private
companies all over the country to serve as their partner in the
improvement of the public educational system.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia, a witness
to the signing of the agreement, challenged the schools to do their role
and responsibility of putting to good use the resources provided them.
“May this partnership truly flourish in an environment of
openness and mutual understanding.
But it can only be so, if all program participants nourish the
commitments that have been sealed today,” Leonardia said.
The office of the City Schools Superintendent
shall monitor and evaluate the implementation of activities and/or
projects that will be covered by the program fund.
