will meet today the Solid Waste Management Technical Team of the city to
explain the mechanics of the 14 million- peso grant of the Spanish

Bacolod
City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia sought the endorsement of the National
Economic and Development Authority in January 2005 for the city’s
request for grant assistance to the Spanish Government to fund the
undertaking of a feasibility study on the Improvement of the Solid Waste
Management System and Facilities of Bacolod City.
“This
is really something big.
This could put us among the best prepared cities on Solid Waste
Management, “ Leonardia said.
“We
expect the technical preparation for the planning of the SWM program will
be better off than other cities in the country” Leonardia added.
“I don’t think there are any other city that has spent this
much for a feasibility study, not even the big cites in Manila.”
The
Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod has passed Resolution no. 787 last
September 15,2005 endorsing the request of the city mayor for the grant
from the Spanish government.
Part
of the Solid Waste Management Plan of the city is a feasibility study for
the construction of the necessary solid waste management facilities like
sanitary landfill (SLF), materials recovery facilities (MRF) and closure
and sealing of existing uncontrolled and controlled dumpsites.
