The
Hotel and Restaurants Association of Negros Occidental (HRANO) today
launched the 3rd Food Industry Exhibition and Symposium for Trade
Advancement 2005 (FIESTA) at the Bacolod Convention Plaza Hotel with the
theme “One Step Ahead… Creating a Competitive Edge”.
FIESTA Bacolod, running for three years now aims
for the expansion and improvement of the food industry of the province and
the city. The activity was supported by several food companies which
showcased their products.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia, in his
opening remarks, said that Bacolod has become the convention destination
in the southern part of the Country. Leonardia also said that by improving
the food industry, the city is also improving its tourism, one of the
three fields projected to become very popular in the next ten years. The
other two are communications and transportation. This will only happen,
according to Leonardia, if we create food that could attract foreign and
domestic tourists.
Mr. Humphrey O’Leary, President of the Hotel and
Restaurants Association of the Philippines was the keynote speaker.
O’Leary focused on the new uses of things we have considered waste but
can now be used to generate energy.
The HRANO has already made bold advances in
improving the food industry. It also holds the Conchita Cuenca Culinary
Competition and other activities in order to yield outstanding graduates
of Hospitality Management studies from different schools and universities
province wide.(CMO-PIO/pjdc)
