DAVAOEÑOS IMPRESSED WITH BACOLOD’S IMPLEMENTATION OF THE COMMUNITY MORTGAGE PROGRAM

      The Island Garden City or IGACOS of Samal in Davao Del Norte sent their 15 local officials to Bacolod City last August 24,2005 to study the city’s implementation of the Community Mortgage Program.
     Earlier IGACOS Mayor Rogelio P. Antalan wrote Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia their new city is in the process of strengthening its housing program through the creation of their Housing Board and Housing Task Force.
     Antalan said Bacolod City is one of the cities in the country with appropriate and successful systems and procedures in the implementation of the Community Mortage Program.
     The delegation, headed by Samal City Committee on Housing chair Councilor Charles Ligan, was impressed primarily impressed with the relocation site of Bacolod City as well as its housing program for its employees.
     Ligan and his fellow officials were received by his Bacolod counterpart Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia.
     Executive Assistant I Ramil Mondejar said the delegation was given a preview of land banking scheme program of the city whereby homeless residents buy house lots from landowners through loan assistance from the city.  About 12 families from Purok Mahimaya-on, Barangay Bata were pioneer beneficiaries of this project.  Each family pays only more than four hundred pesos of monthly amortization.
