Mr.
Patricio Martir of the Drug Enforcement and Rehabilitation (DEAR)
Foundation during a recent meeting of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC),
presented three poverty alleviation projects for the barangays, which will
be conducted in close coordination with the Dept. of Social Services and
Development.
They are “Pera sa Basura”, garment production
and a computer training course to be conducted by the Sharing Computer
Access Locally and Abroad or SCALA, said Martir.
The “Pera sa Basura” targets Barangay Bata as
pilot area targeting 100 unemployed families, especially the Children in
Need of Special Protection (CNSP). This
project needs a total of P650,000 wherein P300,000 comes from the local
government and P350,000 as barangay counterpart.
This project will be replicated in other barangays, as soon as the
pilot project proves successful.
Barangays Handumanan and Villamonte will be the
pilot areas for the garment production.
The local government will be providing the Hi-speed Machine
amounting to half a million. The
marketing of the finished products will be done by the Department iof
Trade and Industry.
The computer training, dubbed as “Engineers
without Borders”, will be conducted by 2 Canadian trainors free of
charge. The DSSD will handle
the board and lodging and the training venue will be the City Cooperative
and Livelihood Development Office Training Center.
DSSD Head Linda Ablanque said that funds for this will be taken
from the unexpended budget of the Balay Paglaum, amounting to P169,000. (CMO-PIO/CADAC)
