MASSKARA 2005 GOES SOUTHEAST ASIAN

Eli Tajanlangit, MassKara Festival Director said that this year’s Masskara will pave the way for the Southeast Asian Games on November, which is the main event for this year. The theme is: “Masks of Southeast Asia”.
“The coming Masskara Festival on October will sport the Southeast Asian look”, Tajanlangit announced during the meeting of the Tourism and Cultural Development Council, held at the conference room of the Mayor’s Office yesterday, August 8.
The whole city will look Southeast Asian, he said.  All establishments in the city, especially the Hotel and Restaurant Association members will be displaying masks and decorations ala Southeast Asia. Even the food served during the period of celebration: October 1 – 19 will echo the theme of the festival.  So with the costumes, the dance steps and Southeast Asia musical instruments will also be incorporated into the celebration, Tajanlangit said.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Josefa “Patching” Puentevella of the Marketing, Conventions and Special Events Committee was also made a member of the Clean and Green Program by Mayor Leonardia, and was tasked to liaise with the Department of Education for the cleanliness drive of the city during the Masskara Festival.  Puentevella mentioned the case of Puerto Princesa where cleanliness was maintained through the help of school children who would pick up garbage and put them in their school bags thus keeping the city clean.
Director Ireneo Asuga of the DILG touched on the city’s cleanliness in relation to the “Clean and Green” campaign of the national government.  Mayor Leonardia said that he would rather the Bacoleños observe the campaign not for the award at stake, but more on inculcating in the hearts and mind of the people the values of the “Clean and Green”.
Director Asuga also suggested that due to the estimated shortage in hotel accommodations in the coming Masskara festivities, the “home-stay” practice may come in handy.  “Home-stay” is when foreign visitors may stay in the homes of private individuals and families, instead of staying in hotels and pension houses for the holidays.(CMO-PIO)
