City will celebrate its 3rd Anti-Mendicancy Consciousness Week
on August 15-19, 2005 with the theme “Mendicants Today, Good Citizens
Tomorrow.”
Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia and City Council
Committee on Social Services Chairman Ana Marie Palermo will distribute
cash gifts to 54 beneficiaries/recipients of the Back-to- School program
of the Anti-Mendicancy Task Force.
The Task Force will embark in an information
dissemination campaign on the fines and penalties for any violation of
City Ordinance 146 or the Anti- Mendicancy Law. Any individual caught
giving alms to a mendicant will be fined accordingly.
In compliance with P.D. No. 1563, an act
establishing an Integrated System which controls and eradicates
mendicancy, the city by way of City Ordinance 146 created the integrated
program to regulate mendicancy, providing penalties and appropriate funds.
The week long activities include the following;
Aug. 15, 2:00pm – Socialization for
parents/children including the advocacy on the child domestic labor at the
Liga ng mga Barangay.
Aug. 16, 8:30 am – Skills training for children
at City Health compound
Aug. 17, 1:30-4:30 pm – Medical Services
Aug. 18, 2:00 pm – Passage of the City
Ordinance/SP Resolution for the rehabilitation of the Home for the Blind
families.
Aug. 19, Field trip with Bacolod First Lady Elsa
Leonardia to Brgy. Alangilan. (CMO-PIO)
