than one hundred mothers from four barangays in Bacolod City will complete
today, July 12, 2005 the three sessions of family and child nutrition
education, Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chair of the Bacolod City
Gender and Development (GAD) Council said.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia and wife, Elsa
Leonardia are the guests of honor during the completion rites at the BAY
Center this afternoon to give out the certificates of completion to the
mothers.
Bacolod City is one of the cities identified by
Nestle Philippines and the Association of Municipal Health Officers of the
Philippines (AMHOP) as project area for Operation Family Nutrition (OFN),
Batapa-Sigue said.
The project dubbed as Operation: Family Nutrition
(OFN), started last May 2005 was conducted for the mothers in Barangays
Villamonte, Banago, Tangub, and Handumanan with the Bacolod City Gender
and Development (GAD) Council as co-implementer. Romulo Maguyon of AMHOP
facilitated the program.
The topics include proper but affordable
nutrition for the family and children, health education for pregnant and
lactating mothers, breastfeeding and budget tips. The program was
enlivened by the presentation of short "telenovelas" about the
