Mayor
Evelio R. Leonardia creates an information technology (IT) focus team to
develop programs and policies for the promotion of Bacolod City as an
investment site for IT enterprises.
Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue was designated as
the chair of the team under Executive Order No. 08 dated May 27, 2005.
Batapa-Sigue who chairs the committee on communications and energy of the
Sangguniang Panlungsod, sponsored a pending ordinance providing incentives
for IT investors.
The members of the team has already conducted
preliminary meeting and presented to various multi-national companies
since the start of 2005, Batapa-Sigue said.
Today, we will plan out the contents and the
launching of the Bacolod IT Investment Website which is a long overdue requirement
of the National Information and Communications Commission (NICC) in order
for Bacolod to compete with other cities, The website will contain all the
information needed by IT locators about Bacolod such as schools offerings
IT courses, cost of business, utilities, infrastructures, incentives,
transportation, manpower and facilities, she said.
Services of possible IT locators include contact
or call centers, medical and legal transcription, and other business
outsourcing. With the team's initiatives, millions of pesos worth of
investment from IT investors and allied providers are expected to come
into the city, she added.
Initially, IT locators consider Bacolod as one of
the sites to explore because of our competitive and fluent pool of
graduates with good academic training and the reasonableness of cost of
doing business in the city, Batapa-Sigue said.
