The Bacolod City Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons spearheaded
by Councilor Ana Marie Palermo is set for the celebration of the National
Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week this coming July 17 to 23.
Palermo said this event is being celebrated in
time with the birthday of the late Apolinario Mabini. He was born in July
22, 1864. The Sublime Paralytic, as Mabini was known, was the conscience
and brains of the Philippine Revolution and key adviser to Gen. Emilio
Aguinaldo.
This celebration recognizes persons with
disability, focusing on their rights and concerns. "We should not
give them attention only during this celebration but our advocacy and
concern for the disabled should be an everyday thing", Palermo said.
The National Disability Prevention and
Rehabilitation celebration is held annually. The theme for this year is:
"Tagisan ang Lakas, Talino at Talento: May K, kaya natin to".
Activities planned for the week's
celebration are; Radio guesting at the "Good Morning Bacolod"
show anchored by Atty. Lorendo Dilag, City Administrator, Sunday Mass and
AGAPE on July 17, flag raising ceremony, a motorcade on July 18, blessing
and inauguration of the PWD Computer Center of the disabled,
livelihood/skills training on fish deboning in July 20, orientation of
Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Nurses on July 21st. There
will be Frienship Games for the differenty-abled on July 22 and on July 23
the celebration will be culminated by a floral offering, cultural
presentation and radio guesting in the program "And Bacolod
Karon" over Superradyo.
This celebration is in cooperation with the
following entities" Volunteers for the Rehabilitation of the
Handicapped and Disabled, Inc., Philippine Sports Foundation, Inc.
Association of Disabled Persons Bacolod, Department of Authority, Special
Children Outreach for Rehabilitation, Association of Disabled Persons
Negros, Bacolod City Police Office, Department of Social Services
