Mayor Evelio Leonardia expressed elation over President Gloria Macapagal
Arroyo’s cyber corridor tour that reaches Bacolod City today (Feb. 4).
Pres. Arroyo’s visit to Bacolod today is part of her
cyber corridor tour that also includes Lipa City (Batangas), Laguna,
Iloilo City, Cebu and Davao.
Leonardia expressed gratitude to the recognition given
to Bacolod as one of the rising luminaries in the information technology
business saying that the I.T. industry has been a big boost to the
economy of the city.
Bacolod City has been recognized as having the best
”business environment and risk management” by the Department of Trade
and Industry through the Commission on Information and Communications
Technology based on the presence of an ICT council, vulnerability to
natural and man-made disturbances, crime rate and efficiency and PEZA-approved
sites. The city also ranked number 5 in the Top 10 Next Wave Cities for
the best BPO locations in the country.
These recognitions, Leonardia said, further confirmed
the Most Business Friendly City award given to Bacolod by the Philippine
Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The mayor noted that the business process outsourcing (BPO)
industry that was non-existent when he held the mayorship in 2004 now
provides employment to over 6,000 Bacoleños, and when critics thought
that the BPO industry in Bacolod has already saturated the qualified
workforce, another BPO, Transcom Asia, came to Bacolod last year and
provided additional employment to over 1,000 Bacoleños.
Other existing major BPOs in Bacolod include the
Convergys, Teleperformance, TeleTech, Telequest and Focus
Communications. |
